Compassion Initiatives

Let's be all IN!

*INvite *INvolve *INvest!

We would like to encourage you  to invite your friends and neighbors, get involved and get invested in the life of Christ Church! We will be focusing on some way we can reach out and tangibly make a difference in the lives of others.  Our present focus is on partnering with Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island.  This organization empowers individuals and families, especially immigrants, refugees and the under-served, to become self-sufficient and fully participating members of our diverse community through innovative programs and advocacy that promote education, training, and cultural understanding.

COMPASSION INITIATIVE

This summer we are beginning a process of collecting backpacks full of needed school supplies for the incoming refugee children. Some tags have a name and age of a specific refugee child on them (many from the family our church is mentoring). Taking one of these tags means you also commit to praying for that child for at least 3 months. These backpacks need to be returned by August 14 in order to be ready for the start of school this fall. Additional backpacks will be distributed to Dorcas as new immigrants arrive.

How YOU can help:

1. Choose a tag from the board and write your name on the sign up clipboard next to the corresponding number on your tag.

2. Purchase a backpack and fill it with school supplies and lots of love, using the supply sheet to guide your purchases (it is a suggested list, every item does not necessarily need to be purchased).

3. Pray over the backpack.

4. Drop off the backpack in the bin located at the church lower entrance by August 14 (for tags #1-11) or as soon as you can. Be sure to attach the apple number tag onto the backpack.

It’s not just about paper, pens, or binders–it’s about giving the gift of opportunity to these very special children and their families.
