Blessed (10:30am)

What is the purpose of a blessing? Nice words of encouragement? Nice thoughts, if they were just true. Or is blessing something more? Could it be that blessing changes everything? Could it be that blessing harnesses the very creative power of God’s spoken word and transforms what merely is into what it could be… into what it was meant to be? The blessing is what changed the equation when it came to feeding 5000 people with five loaves and two fish. Come see how it can change the equations of our lives as well.

Gathered

When Jesus fed over 5000 people, the first thing He did was gather the resources at hand. Sometimes we think we don’t have much to offer. The disciples only had a few loaves and a couple fish. Definitely not enough to address the need at hand. But what we find is that this is not about our ability to do God’s work. It is always about our willingness to let God gather even us and let Him work through us… to do even the impossible.

Something More

When Jesus fed over 5000 people, everyone was amazed at the event. In the gospel of John, we are told that many people followed Him after that; some hoping for another free lunch, some hoping to see another amazing miracle. But when Jesus gets alone with His disciples, He has one question for them, “Do you understand what it meant?” Others may see the story, but disciples are supposed to get the point. So, do we understand the point of the story, the living story of Jesus’ life in the feeding of the 5000? Let’s look at it together…

Abundance Perspective (10:30)

How often do we feel like we are not enough, that we are not equipped for what God has in store for us? How do we tune ourselves into how God is moving in the world and our place in God’s plan? Despite the fact that we only seem to have a few loaves and fish, Jesus shows us that, in and through him, we can feed thousands.

Pray

Prayer is that ongoing conversation we have with the Holy Spirit in the midst of our everyday life. It is built around praising God for who He is, confessing who we are, and laying claim to the things God has promised us in His Word. If you remember, these are the three things that make up what it means to live, abide, remain in Christ. And where do we learn this kind of prayer? By praying and letting the Spirit teach us along the way.

Abide

Our world is fast paced, noisy and distracted. Words like remain, listen and rest don’t fit well in our lives. But those are the words that God uses about our relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit. And He says that in those words and relationships are found the life that we desire. So, how can we learn to rest, listen and remain in our fast paced, noisy and distracted world? Let’s talk about it…

It's Better If I Go

What could be better than having Jesus right here with us; seeing Him, hearing His words as He speaks them, sharing life with Him? But somehow, Jesus seems to think that it is actually better that He is not here and the Holy Spirit is. Why? Because while we can’t see Him, we can still hear His voice and share life with Him, but now He is with each one of us, 24/7, forever!

Light Them Up!

What was the greatest sign of the presence of God’s Spirit? Miracles? Prophetic messages? Signs in the constellations? The sign that seemed to have gotten the most attention and had the most impact was the way followers of Jesus shared whatever they had with each other and with anyone who was in need. This was the sign that proved to those around them that God truly existed and that He had transformed their lives.
