Discover Your Gifts
Another way to “connect” at Christ Church is to participate in one of the ongoing ministries of the church. This class is a way to discover where and how you can serve, to find a ministry that best fits who you are and which will be a rewarding experience for you.

Discover Your Gifts is a core course which we offer on regular basis as a Sunday morning adult class. We explore what spiritual gifts are, discover what gifts God has given you, and see how they act in concert with our personalities and areas of interest.

From the beginning, Christ Church had no standing committees as part of its structure. We organized around the concept of gift-based ministries. New ministries come up as needs arise, and ministries are based upon the giftedness of our members.

Gift-based ministries follows from Scripture passages in Romans 12, I Cor. 12 and Ephesians 4. Essence of it is -- when you become a believer, a Christ-follower, the Holy Spirit conveys to each person a spiritual gift. These God-given gifts are to be used in service within the church.

The apostle Paul uses the metaphor of the human body for the church; where each persons, each part -- the eye, hand, foot is crucial to its functioning. One part is not more important than others, and all the parts must work together for the body to work effectively. We are all different, but we are all needed.

Christ Church, in order to fulfill its call, wants to help each member discover his or her gifts. In the gifts class, we help you identify your gifts, and combine them with your passion, & personality through a consultation process, so you can find your niche in the church and find a meaningful way to serve. What we do differs from a traditional Bible study of spiritual gifts. The class looks at 3 components in this process: 1.Spiritual Gifts, 2. Personality, and 3.“Passion” or areas of interest. Your unique contribution comes as these 3 elements work in conjunction with one another. The discovery of gifts is a very fruitful exercise.

There’s a freedom to serve based on your gifts. It allows you to be the person God intends you to be and gives you a place within the body of faith. There’s a flip side to this -- you experience a level of comfort because you also know where you are gifted and where you aren’t gifted - this makes it easier to say “no” to those things that don’t fit who you are.

Gift-based ministries is an approach of service that yields energy and enthusiasm. You are excited about what you’re doing! There’s little burn out when you are working in your gift area. Yes, you may get tired once in a while. But if you are truly serve in your area of giftedness, there’s a sense of rightness about it, and a passion that doesn’t fade.
